Does this mean I can run my own Twitter like app? - World of open source enablers

@duncanriley wrote this article today on techcrunch.

http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/03/24/revou-lets-you-host-your-own-twitter/

Its funny, how easy these guys make it. ReVou lets you build your own microblogging site including admin piece of it, pretty neat.

As he mentioned in the article Pligg was a Open source version of Digg, but how many people took that and made a business out of it. Digg was too big by then. Same story with Twitter. It is at the pinnacle of sucesss right now, so any new clone or open source app coming will not make much of difference. Rather it speaks more for the popularity and success of the original apps like Digg and Twitter.

AOL bebo deal - The best thing AOL has seen for ages

@erickschonfeld are you kidding me?. Bebo is the best thing that has happened to AOL in a long time. as compared to all the crappy deals they have done all these years. Guess $850 m is still way low evaluation for Bebo, they were sold so cheap, AOL got a elephant for the price of dog!. (pardon my comparison here) but you got my point right?.

Think about it, AOL is sitting on their butt for so many years (with all the money they made by selling internet services over the year and not to mention harassing people by sending those stupid CD's in a mail) and there comes a 3rd biggest social network Bebo for the price less than they were thinking. As you said @erickschonfeld said in his article
22.9 million unique visitors in February and 10.3 billion pageviews

Which is massive, add that to AOL's crown and boom they become now valuable.

Bebo paid the price for going for less than a billion dollar, because they are not in the Silicon Valley as simple as that. Mark Zuckerberg made smart move by moving Facebook to valley. His evaluation went right up by millions of dollars (that to 2-3 digits).

'American Idol' Behind the Scenes - How they keep it secet ?

I always wondered how American Idol or any reality show keeps such a tight control on insider news, results. It is possible that people can goof up and cat is out. Here is the info how AI people do it

Set Secrets: To make sure no info gets leaked during the show, the Idol staff doesn't allow any electronic devices into the studio--that includes phones, cameras, BlackBerrys, Palm Pilots and Sidekicks. No texting or early voting allowed! And if you're wondering why no seat ever looks empty in the studio, even though some people (like celebs) might leave early during the show, here's the trick: They have plenty of seat fillers on hand to sit in a seat if someone gets up and doesn't make it back before the commercial break ends. Gotta love television magic.

Interesting Here is the whole article you can read on NYPOST this.
